Masozi's Journal Entry:
Day 23: The Spawning Trees
Our journey has brought us to the Spawning Trees, a place of ancient power and hidden secrets. With the memory staff in hand, we set out to locate the exact point within this mystical forest where the memory mote we seek is hidden.
After several humorous and fumbling attempts to wield the memory staff correctly, we finally succeeded in following its guidance to the memory mote. Upon activating it, a vision unfolded before us:
The Vision
The magic of the memory staff transported our minds to a distant point in the past. We saw a young girl, now a teenager, standing before a raccoon caught in a crudely made trap. The blonde girl seemed to be muttering softly to herself until her shadow grew and transformed into the dark figure we had seen in a previous vision. It became clear that she was speaking to this shadowy entity.
"But I haven’t been able to change the future before. The bad visions come true despite my efforts," the girl lamented.
A deep voice from the shadow responded, "My child, you’ve gone about it all wrong. A little bad can justify the good. Kill the creature and watch your vision turn good."
Hesitantly, the girl picked up a dagger and ended the raccoon’s life. After a moment, she jumped up happily and exclaimed, "It did change! My friend no longer starves because this raccoon does not exist to eat the harvest! I can do more than observe the future."
As the vision faded, we were transported back to the hell-scape around us. Upon our return, a woman’s voice echoed angrily, "These are my memories! Get out of my mind!" We turned to see a monstrous being before us.
The Battle with the Steel Predator
A Steel Predator emerged, its sole focus on attacking and killing Dipples. Its screeches were hideous, wounding and stunning several of us. Despite its ferocity, we managed to defeat this hunter of mages.
Ikkis and the Crypt
Following our victory, Ikkis the imp guided us to the location of the next memory mote, but only after we promised to open a door for him. We arrived at a crypt door, featureless save for four stones embedded within it: a Polished Black Stone, a Green Stone, an Off-White Stone, and a Metallic Stone. These fist-sized stones, when pushed in the correct sequence—Onyx (Black), Pearl (Off-White), Emerald (Green), and Nickel (Metallic)—opened the door.
Inside, a clawed demon, imprisoned within the chamber, attacked us with crab-like claws and pummeling fists. This foul beast wielded both brute strength and magical spells, but in the end, we prevailed. Sadly, Briza did not land the killing blow, leaving her armor inactive.
The journey continues, and with each step, the mysteries of the Spawning Trees and the memories we uncover bring us closer to our ultimate goal.
